Homework Challenges Autumn 1

Homework

Due to Covid 19 we will not be sending weekly Maths and English homework like we have done previously in order to minimise the amount of item children are taking to and from school. Instead, children have their Topic Homework, linked to their learning in school, which they need to complete. We ask that three challenges are completed by the end of each half term (one from each colour band). My email address is attached to the Topic Homework so children can email their work to school which they can then share with the class.

Reading

It is really important that we ensure our children are confident readers who have a love for reading. Therefore I would ask that children read at least three times a week and that this is recorded in their reading records. This will then ensure that the children receive their reading stickers and awards. Pupils now have their new Accelerated Reader levels and login information so they can complete quizzes at home.

Spellings

Children will be given spellings each Monday and will be tested the following Monday.

Mathletics

Pupils have their Mathletics information in their Home Record books so that they can access this at home.

Class Homework

Homework is given out to children every Monday to be returned by the following Monday and will consist of a piece of Literacy and a piece of Numeracy.

As an extra challenge, the children have been given a homework challenge sheet that is related to the topic of the term. House points are available to the children for completing these challenges and it is expected that ONE challenge is done during a term and that it is a high quality piece of work.

Class Spellings

Spellings will also be given out on a Monday to learn for a spelling test the folllowing Monday. It is important that children look at their spellings during the week as they will be constantly revisited during daily spelling sessions.

The spellings that are given follow the rules and spellings set out by the National Curriculum. Sometimes spelling rules from previous year groups may be studied if a recap is needed.
